PoliticsJapan seeks record US$56 billion defence budget focused on long-range capabilities

Japan’s defence ministry is seeking more than 9 trillion yen (US$56 billion) for the next fiscal year, prioritising standoff weapon systems. It plans to order up to 400 Tomahawk missiles from the United States and is also focusing on drones, artificial intelligence and other “new ways of warfare”.
