> Rescue work continued on Aug 28 after a massive flood swept through a river valley in Nepal and Tibet. Experts warned that blocked rivers could trigger more flooding. The US Geological Survey attributed the disaster to a glacial collapse that sent a huge flow of icy debris downstream, while geoscientist Umesh Haritashya said thawing permafrost is an increasingly important risk beyond glacier melt.
