A closer look at the flash floods along the Nepal-China border suggests that heavy rain was not the trigger. Scientists believe a glacier collapse near the Nepal-Tibet border began the disaster: satellite analysis shows the lower section broke away at about 5,200 metres, plunged roughly 1,200 metres and gathered rock, sediment and other debris as it descended.
