TechAnalysis: Deepfakes grow harder to detect as AI scams and fake images spread

Deepfakes are becoming more common and more difficult to identify, from fake celebrity endorsements and political disinformation to nudification apps. Sam Gregory, executive director of Witness and an expert on AI and synthetic media, calls the trend an “escalating problem” in consumer scams, fabricated sexual images and political disinformation.
