Hours after Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canada was “walking away from a bad deal” with the United States, business groups supported the federal government’s decision while issuing a stark warning. The new 50 per cent tariff will sharply raise export costs for many Canadian businesses, including lumber, steel and auto producers that had hoped talks would lower tariffs.
