EconomyUS-Canada tariff war escalates as Washington imposes 50% duties

Trade tensions between the US and Canada have intensified after last-minute talks failed to reach an agreement. Washington’s new 50 percent tariffs on nearly $20bn of Canadian exports are now in effect, covering products such as alcohol, furniture, dairy, clothing and sporting goods. Prime Minister Mark Carney says Ottawa will match the US duties dollar for dollar to protect Canada.
