The Supreme Court has allowed construction of Donald Trump’s partly built White House ballroom to proceed for now. Chief Justice John Roberts issued a temporary order on the day an injunction against above-ground work was due to take effect. An appeals court had previously paused the project pending congressional approval. Costs have risen from an initial $200m estimate to $400m, with Versailles-inspired designs, Corinthian columns, yellow marble floors and gold presidential details.
