ScienceVolunteer-developed cave radio aids Alberta cave rescue

A caver trapped for hours in a vertical passage known as the “Psych Squeeze” at Rat’s Nest Cave in Canmore, Alta., was rescued on Aug. 15. The Alberta/B.C. Cave Rescue team removed rock with hammer-drills and used a new volunteer-developed digital cave radio for the first time, enabling text-message communication through rock.
