# Taiwan’s 2027 defense budget exceeds 3% of GDP for the first time

> Taiwan’s Executive Yuan approved the 2027 central government budget, with total defense spending set at NT$1.1225 trillion, or about $35.168 billion. The figure equals 3.01% of GDP, marking the first time Taiwan’s defense budget has surpassed both NT$1 trillion and 3% of GDP. The proposal will be sent to the Legislative Yuan by the end of August.
