US President Donald Trump has renewed his aspiration to make the Strait of Hormuz “an American territory”, saying the US controls it through a blockade. Hudson Institute senior fellow Brian Clark described Trump’s demand that Iran “raise the flag of surrender” as a “maximalist demand”, saying both sides are making assertions and hoping the other backs down. He said the MOU is now “a dead letter”.
