> President Donald Trump said he was unhappy that the United States had agreed to hold joint military exercises with South Korea, citing his good relationship with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. He ordered a major reduction in the Aug. 17-27 Ulchi Freedom Shield drills. Seoul said it hoped the relationship could lead to talks promoting peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and pledged to support those efforts.
