PoliticsPhilippines launches truth commission into Duterte’s deadly drug war

An independent body has begun hearings into killings linked to former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s anti-drug campaign. The government puts the death toll at about 6,000, while rights groups say extrajudicial killings by police and suspected vigilantes may have killed as many as 30,000 people. Luzviminda Siapo testified about her disabled teenage son Raymart, who was abducted and killed nine years ago while she worked in Kuwait.
