WorldEurope’s Extreme Heat Wave Crisis Is Getting Worse

Another intense heat wave is sweeping across drought-stricken Europe this week. The heat is increasing wildfire risks, putting crops under pressure and further drying watersheds that feed some of the region’s critically low rivers. It is expected to be Europe’s fifth major heat wave of the year. Moisture-bearing clouds may be blocked from replenishing the Rhine, Po and Danube, where record-low water levels have already disrupted navigation and power generation.
