> Wildfires are spreading across the western United States and Canada, driving tens of thousands of people from their homes while toxic smoke moves across the continent. In Spokane, Washington, Brian Davis lost the family home where he had lived for 18 years, cherished possessions and two pets. Officials called the damage the worst ever recorded in the region. Other fires have triggered mass evacuations around California’s Big Sur. Firefighters warn that the wildfire season continues through November.
