PoliticsHungary elects ousted judge Andras Baka as new president

Hungary’s National Assembly has chosen former Supreme Court judge Andras Baka as president of the republic. Baka was removed during Viktor Orban’s rule, a dismissal later judged unfair by the European Court of Human Rights. New Prime Minister Peter Magyar presents the appointment as a symbolic break with Orban’s approach to power. Baka is calling for healing rather than revenge and for checks and balances to be restored in Hungarian democracy.
