WorldColombia earthquake death toll rises above 220

At least 224 people have died after one of Colombia’s largest earthquakes in years, prompting the declaration of a state of emergency. The toll is expected to increase as rescuers search collapsed buildings where more people may be trapped. The country’s geological service said the magnitude 7.4 quake struck at 07:34 local time, or 12:34 GMT, at a depth of 103km. Tremors were felt across a vast area extending hundreds of miles through western Colombia.
