> Firefighters have slowed major wildfires in Washington state, enabling tens of thousands of evacuees to return. The fires had forced about 65,000 people to leave the Spokane area and destroyed more than 900 homes. Across western North America, blazes extend from British Columbia through Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah and California. Al Jazeera’s John Hendren reports from Spokane.
