# Rescuers race to find survivors after 7.4-magnitude earthquake hits Colombia

> Volunteers and rescuers in western Colombia are combing through collapsed buildings with their bare hands and buckets in a desperate search for survivors. The powerful earthquake killed at least 111 people across the country’s west. Geological surveys in the United States and Colombia said the 7.4-magnitude quake struck at 7.34am local time on Monday. Its epicentre was in the western department of Chocó, where the destruction has been severe.
