PoliticsHan Xiu: The CCP’s Biggest Mistake Was Not Keeping the Name ‘Republic of China’
Chinese-American writer Han Xiu spoke with Voice of America ahead of her 80th birthday, reflecting on a life spanning the United States, China and Taiwan. She discussed Chinese culture and national identity, describing the conflict between the Nationalists and Communists as a division between humans and ghosts. Han said Taiwan preserved traditional Chinese culture and argued that the Chinese Communist Party’s greatest mistake was abandoning the name “Republic of China.” She also accused Communist forces of using women and children as “human shields” and said artifacts taken away by Chiang Kai-shek were spared destruction during the Cultural Revolution.
