WorldWestern Europe sets new temperature record as heat waves pummel the region

Heat waves across Western Europe pushed the region’s average temperature for June and July above the previous record set in 2022. Copernicus, the European climate agency, said the extreme heat started in May and has been linked to major wildfires, extended drought and new national temperature records. Thousands of heat-related deaths are projected. Climate figures show that globally, this year is so far the third hottest on record, behind 2024 and 2025.
