# Libreville grapples with severe water shortage

> Gabon’s capital, Libreville, has endured severe water shortages for several months. Low rainfall, ageing infrastructure and rising demand from a growing population have driven the crisis. The government declared a state of emergency earlier this month and brought in military engineers to help. A distribution plan for affected neighbourhoods has failed to provide relief, however, after private water distributors exploited the scheme. France 24 reports from Libreville.
