WorldJapan’s Nagasaki marks 81st anniversary of US atomic bombing

Nagasaki held commemorations on Sunday marking 81 years since the United States dropped an atomic bomb on the southern Japanese city. The city’s mayor condemned growing support for nuclear deterrence around the world, including in Japan, and urged the Japanese government to do more for nuclear disarmament. The Aug. 9, 1945, bombing killed 70,000 people. Three days earlier, the bombing of Hiroshima killed 140,000.
