> Analysts say the Mecca agreement reflects Saudi Arabia’s effort to diversify its defence partnerships. The pact brings support from Turkiye and Pakistan. It was announced as regional tensions were rising. Saudi-backed government forces in Yemen have launched a military operation against the Ansarullah Houthis after a series of attacks, while Iran and the United States have not reached a final agreement to end the war. The trilateral pact is therefore prompting questions about how effective it can be.
