WorldProlonged drought reveals village buried beneath Indonesian reservoir

A prolonged dry spell has caused the remains of Somang village to emerge from a drying reservoir in Indonesia. The settlement in Banten province was submerged during construction of the Karian reservoir. The project was built between 2015 and 2023 to provide water for the Greater Jakarta area. After four months without rain, homes, a mosque and other structures in the former residential area have become visible again.
