> Two years after resigning as Bangladesh’s prime minister, Sheikh Hasina has said she intends to return home from exile in India. She was removed from office amid mass protests in 2024 and was later sentenced to death in absentia for crimes against humanity. A Bangladeshi court found that she had authorised security forces to use “lethal weapons” against protesters. The United Nations has estimated that as many as 1,400 people died during the unrest. Her address has renewed attention on whether she may return.
