A wave of strong corporate earnings pushed stocks to fresh record highs. Markets also gained after President Donald Trump said an agreement on the Strait of Hormuz could be reached as soon as Wednesday. Equities later surrendered part of their earlier advance, but the S&P 500 remained on course for its longest winning streak since June.
