CultureRwanda's big-screen moment: Historic Cannes win sparks creative boom

Rwandan cinema is receiving unprecedented attention after a landmark success at Cannes. In May, Marie-Clémentine Dusabejambo’s film Ben'Imana won the Caméra d’Or, marking the first time a Rwandan feature had received the prize. The victory has energized a local film community that is expanding rapidly. Restored cinemas in Kigali, an open-air festival and a new generation of filmmakers are all signs of that momentum.
