WorldKenyan cult leader sentenced to 200 years in prison

Paul Mackenzie, a Kenyan cult leader, was sentenced to 200 years in prison over the deaths of 190 children who were starved on his orders in Shakahola Forest. Prosecutors said he persuaded followers to fast in hopes of reaching heaven before the apocalypse; some victims were beaten, buried alive or dumped in latrines. Twenty-eight accomplices were also jailed. The case has raised serious questions about authorities’ failure to respond to repeated warnings dating back to 2017.
