SocietyBangladesh garment workers clash with police in pay protests

Police fired tear gas and stun grenades on Wednesday to disperse garment workers demanding higher wages, police and witnesses said. The workers seek a minimum monthly wage of 30,000 takas ($245), up from 12,500. The protests have disrupted an industry that earns Bangladesh about $40 billion a year in exports. The government has formed a new wage board.
