More parents in Singapore are signing their children up for martial arts and self-defence classes to improve fitness, confidence and self-protection skills. Some gyms report demand has climbed by as much as 50 per cent. Instructors say lessons also teach self-esteem, emotional management and when to avoid confrontation.
