> The U.N. political mission in Somalia closes Saturday, ending three decades of mediation and support for rebuilding institutions after the civil war. The government calls the move a milestone in managing its own affairs, while critics say its departure removes a key avenue for resolving political disputes. Leaders remain divided over elections, and al-Qaida-linked militants continue fighting. U.N. aid agencies and African Union forces will stay in the country.
