PoliticsHow the U.S. midterm elections are counted

U.S. national elections are organized and counted separately by each state, which sets its own voter-registration and polling rules. In the midterms, states will tally House and Senate races independently. The decentralized system makes large-scale ballot manipulation harder to conceal but can delay results. Media outlets call winners, while states certify official results later; state control also leads to differences in voting rights and primary rules.
