African leaders are meeting in Moscow for the third Russia-Africa Summit as Russia’s military and economic influence grows across the continent. Security ties have deepened, but trade stands at $27bn, compared with China’s $348bn and the EU’s $402bn. Russian paramilitary forces have supported campaigns in Mali and the wider Sahel, and hundreds of African fighters have reportedly died fighting for Russia in Ukraine.
