> Brazil’s left-wing President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won re-election by defeating Flavio Bolsonaro, son of Jair Bolsonaro. After trailing in the first round, Lula turned the race around in the runoff. The Bolsonaro camp rejected the defeat and called for the result to be annulled. Analysts described the outcome as a dramatic comeback and a major divide over Brazil’s political direction.
