> Just two days shy of his 81st birthday, Brazil’s Workers’ Party leader Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva staged a comeback after trailing in the first-round polls. He became the first candidate since the country returned to democracy in the 1980s to win a presidential runoff after losing the first round, turning a 2.2 million-vote deficit against far-right Flavio Bolsonaro into a 4.4 million-vote victory.
