WorldPolice and protesters trade tear gas and fireworks at demonstrations across France

Hundreds of thousands marched across France on Saturday over school funding and the cost of living. A peaceful daytime protest in Paris, with at least 110,000 people marching along the city’s eastern edge, turned into violent clashes with police at night. Police fired tear gas in five cities to keep protesters from reaching city centres, while bin fires were lit amid clashes in Marseille.
