> France saw another wave of nationwide anti-government protests, with nearly 1,000 people arrested. Unions put turnout at 800,000, compared with the government’s estimate of 400,000. Most rallies were peaceful, but violence erupted in several cities, where police used tear gas and water cannon. More than 70,000 security personnel were deployed to prevent a repeat of last weekend’s unrest.
