> Jianying Cha says she saw soldiers fire on people in Tiananmen Square in the early hours of June 4, 1989, an event that ended her literary aspirations. Her essay collection, “Enemies of the State,” was published in Japan this year and concerns her brother Jianguo Cha, who was sentenced to nine years in prison for helping form an opposition party.
