PoliticsUS envoy Tom Barrack says America is ‘engaged, not controlling’ the Middle East

US special envoy Tom Barrack told Al Jazeera that Washington will stay engaged in the Middle East but will not seek to control it. He said allies should expect no blanket guarantees and regional states must take more responsibility for their own security. Barrack praised Qatar’s intermediary role with Iran and called for a ceasefire, mutual respect and reduced tensions.
