> A wildfire in South Bangka, on Indonesia’s Sumatra island, destroyed nearly 300 homes and displaced hundreds as a shift in wind direction pushed flames toward a settlement. Nearly 1,000 people fled the village, according to the local disaster agency. The fires have intensified this year amid El Niño, causing severe haze and air pollution across the region.
