> Pakistani authorities declared a state of emergency in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, effectively suspending the provincial government run by Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. President Asif Ali Zardari approved the cabinet’s recommendation; the prime minister’s office accused the provincial government of deliberately disengaging from the fight against terrorism.
