> Multiple sources said Wednesday that Eritrean troops had deployed in northern Ethiopia’s Tigray region, raising the prospect of an internal conflict widening into a regional war. Fighting between the Tigray People’s Liberation Front and Ethiopian federal forces began on September 23, fuelling fears of a return to the devastating 2020–2022 civil war. Ethiopia accuses Eritrea of backing the rebels, and the neighbours severed diplomatic ties last week.
