> Texas executed 46-year-old Jamaal Howard by lethal injection on Wednesday evening, the first US execution since an unsuccessful attempt to execute Christa Pike last week. His lawyers sought a pause over the use and condition of the same drug, but courts and the US Supreme Court rejected the appeals. Howard was convicted of killing convenience-store clerk Vickie Swartout during a 2000 robbery.
