> More than 5,000 people remain missing after a deadly flood on the China-Nepal border, while rescue operations have ended. Because Nepal generally presumes someone dead only after 12 years, families struggle to obtain death certificates needed for compensation, property transfers and inheritance. Some are using sacred kusha-grass effigies to perform last rites.
