# ‘Ghost particles’ observatory wins Nobel Prize in Physics

> Belgian physicist Prof Francis Halzen has won the Nobel Prize in Physics for pioneering the IceCube observatory at the South Pole. Built into a cubic kilometre of Antarctic ice, its light sensors detect neutrinos that carry clues about violent, high-energy processes in the distant universe.
