> Voting has opened in Brazil’s presidential election, which also covers state governors, the Chamber of Deputies, one-third of the Federal Senate and state legislatures. Incumbent Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and right-wing candidate Flavio Bolsonaro are running neck and neck, making a first-round win unlikely. A runoff will take place on October 25 if no candidate wins more than half of valid votes.
