> Thousands of French secondary students are protesting underfunded education, overcrowded classrooms, deteriorating buildings and poor teacher pay. Hundreds of high schools were closed or barricaded, while students accused police of excessive force. The government called their grievances legitimate but condemned what it described as “urban violence”; injuries have been reported among students and education staff, and the protests may continue next week.
