> Student protests over teacher shortages, deteriorating school buildings and a lack of learning materials continued across France, leaving more than 400 schools and educational establishments closed on Friday. Police have made around 2,000 arrests and scores of people were injured, while some protests turned violent. The education minister called for dialogue, but student unions urged further strike action and mass protests.
