# Six smugglers jailed for manslaughter over deadliest Channel small-boat disaster

> Six people traffickers in France were convicted of involuntary homicide over the November 2021 sinking of a small boat that killed 31 migrants, including a seven-year-old child. They received six to 10 years in prison; seven others received lesser sentences and one defendant was acquitted. The court found two cooperating smuggling networks had organised the crossing using an overloaded, uncertified and unsafe boat.
