> MI5 says China used the China General Technology Research Institute, which has very close links to the Ministry of State Security, to fund research involving more than 100 academics connected to UK institutions. Some researchers may not have known the institute’s role. Universities are urged to review cooperation, as individuals could face criminal charges for assisting a foreign intelligence service.
